The HELIOS SPERICAL MIPS from GIRO is the ideal bike helmet for a bike-packing tour with your gravel bike or a ride with your road bike – the bike helmet is great on any road or gravel adventure! At the heart of this unusual design and the helmet’s performance is the SPERICAL MIPS technology, providing even better protection for your head. In addition, the 24 vents of the HELIOS SPERICAL MIPS offer great ventilation which is improved through the ROC LOC 5 AIR adjustment system.

Highlights & Technologies:
IN-MOLD:
The inner shell is fused with the outer shell under high pressure and strong heat for a lasting connection. This makes the helmet very robust and lightweight.
EPS:
All Giro helmets come with a liner shell made of EPS (expanded polystyrene). EPS is the most efficient material for absorbing shock and impact energies. EPS is extremely lightweight and maintains its properties in a wide temperature range.
The purpose of the inner EPS shell is to prevent or reduce a rider’s head injuries in the event of a fall. The shell absorbs the impact energy and is thereby itself compressed or even destroyed (comparable to an airbag in a car). This is why you should always replace a bike helmet with a new one after an impact.
HARDBODY:
The HARDBODY outer shell is made of a ultra-thin polycarbonate material that surrounds the IN-MOLD shell. This technology provides the necessary structure and impact resistance.
NANOBEAD EPS:
To get an elegant and slim silhouette without compromising protection standards, GIRO uses an EPS with microbeads that do not expand as much. EPS is extremely lightweight and maintains its properties in a wide temperature range.
The purpose of the EPS inner shell is to
prevent or reduce a rider’s head injuries in the event of a fall. The shell absorbs the impact energy and is thereby itself compressed or even destroyed (comparable to an airbag in a car). This is why you should always replace a bike helmet with a new one after an impact.
ROC LOC 5 AIR FIT SYSTEM:
The adjustment system in a mini housing allows for easy adjustments with just two fingers. You can adjust it in height and width for a perfect fit.
WIND TUNNEL:
A sophisticated ventilation system consisting of internal channels and active vents allows cool, fresh air to circulate around the head while also allowing heat to escape. For great ventilation on exhausting sections.
IONIC+ padding:
Breathable liner pads for even more comfort and effective temperature and moisture management. Antibacterial and odour-inhibiting effect thanks to silver ions that are permanently embedded into the fibre.
MIPS SPHERICAL:
This is a further development of the MULTI-DIRECTIONAL IMPACT PROTECTION SYSTEM (MIPS) and replaces the plastic sliding pieces of the original system. Serving an important function within the MIPS SPHERICAL sliding system are the two layers of EPS foam. This construction offers more protection without compromising on comfort or ventilation. The MIPS SPHERICAL design is based on the concept of a ball-in-socket, with an invisible, low-friction layer that slides between two EPS layers. This elegant design allows the outer shell to rotate independently from the helmet itself when there is a rotational impact. The result is a reduction of rotational forces and the elimination of the plastic sliding layer of the original MIPS system.
WHAT IS MIPS?
MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is a slip-plane system within the helmet. It is designed to rotate inside the helmet and thus slow down or reduce the impact energy acting on the brain, which helps reduce head injuries caused by rotational impacts.
WHY IS MIPS IMPORTANT?
When a head rotates quickly and comes to a sudden stop, the rotational acceleration may cause the brain tissue to experience high levels of strain. This stretching of the tissue caused by these motions may result in various types of brain injury. MIPS is designed with the intent to address rotational acceleration from impact.
HOW DOES MIPS WORK?
MIPS uses a slip-plane system that moves inside the helmet, mimicking the brain’s own protection system. This layer is designed to rotate inside the helmet with the intent to potentially slow down or reduce the amount of energy transferred to or from the head. Science tells us that if we can reduce the strains associated with rotational acceleration, we might reduce the risk and severity of brain injury.
